Recorded live on TikTok, this episode takes a playful but honest look at society’s obsession with age — from the clothes we wear to the things we do.
Roula opens up about feeling self-conscious when dressing in younger styles, wondering if she’s “too old” to wear certain looks, while Rosie calls out the idea entirely. The two talk about growing at your own pace, the unfairness of “you should know better,” and why style, fun, and freedom shouldn’t come with age limits. There’s even a cameo from Madonna and a tangent about camel toes, because of course there is.
Topics covered
- Are we ever too old or too young for anything?
- Generational differences in how we define maturity
- The cultural pressure to “act your age”
- How style and self-expression evolve over time
When was the last time you worried about being “too old” or “too young” for something?

TRANSCRIPT
Rosie (00:00)
Hello dear listener, this is another episode that was recorded live on TikTok. So if the audio is a bit different, the format's a bit different, don't stress. We were live on TikTok having the time of our lives. By the way, we'll be doing a lot more of that. So go follow us over on TikTok. And in the meantime, enjoy this episode.
Roula (00:32)
Let's do one more, one more. Yeah. One, one, one more.
Rosie (00:34)
One more, okay.
Roula (00:39)
when are we too old or too young to do something?
Rosie (00:45)
Huh.
Is there such a thing?
Roula (00:51)
I don't know, you tell me.
Rosie (00:55)
⁓ that's so hard. ⁓ I'm so conflicted because...
I never liked it when people would say, you're too young, too young to understand or too young to do that.
And then, I don't know, now I'm older and it's like, well, there probably are things that some, you're too young to do. I don't know, I don't like this question. What are your thoughts? Or it's like driving. You see elderly people driving. Some are brilliant drivers. However, there are also a group of elderly drivers who should not be driving. They are very dangerous. So you're too fucking old to drive. Or is it not about age? I don't know.
Roula (01:37)
That's a good one. That's
a good one. I think when you're in your 30s you can get away with anything. You're not too young, you're not too old, everything is possible. And then
Rosie (01:48)
Okay, yeah.
You know something I say
a lot is you're old enough to know better. I do or something along those lines.
Like, you should know better!
Roula (02:03)
your alt enough.
Rosie (02:05)
Like Rula, you're 52 or 51 years old. You should know by now that I'm just making this up that
saying thank you is just simple good manners. Grow up.
Roula (02:20)
⁓ I hate everything you said. This is not cool.
Rosie (02:25)
Have
you ever said something like that to somebody?
Roula (02:29)
no no it's i don't well okay because first i don't use this kind of words because it's not my style grow up that's so hard because ⁓ what life taught me and with my children i learned that each one is growing at their own pace and when i say grow up what do i mean
Rosie (02:31)
okay.
Yeah. Yeah.
Mmm.
Roula (02:57)
What do I mean? When which aspects I want them to grow up to do something because they might have a different take on a topic that in my grownup eyes does not fit their age. And I learned some, this is very strongly from them. So my kids who are 22, 20 and 10 years old, when I give them this grow up speech, they're like, but this is not how we think.
Rosie (02:57)
Mmm.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Roula (03:26)
We're not like this is not our generation
Rosie (03:26)
Right.
Yeah, so it's not about age. It's about allowing them to have, yeah. It's just a difference in beliefs maybe and attitudes.
Roula (03:34)
It's about time.
Maybe, but to
make it simple, to make it simple, I wonder when I will be 70, will I be still dressing the way I dress now? Because now I dress something and then I think, can I get away with this? Shouldn't I wear this when I was younger?
Rosie (03:45)
You
⁓ I think you will.
you
my god,
I can't believe you had those thoughts.
Roula (04:04)
I do because I like, for example, some gothic style. Lately, maybe because it's autumn, the weather is changing. And I was at event which had a lot of anime and gothic stuff. And I found really nice earrings, nice necklaces. And I was saying to my friend, am I too old to wear stuff like this? Because...
Rosie (04:14)
Mmm.
Yeah.
Roula (04:33)
I'm very self-conscious, conscious. When I'm with a Gen Z person or a millennial and I'm dressed in the same style, I'm like, ⁓ do I look ridiculous? Because that could be my daughter and we're wearing the same style.
Rosie (04:43)
⁓
Talk.
mind-blowing is that it's not necessarily a thought you would have about others but your internal dialogue or your thoughts about yourself is am I too old for this? No you're not too old. No such thing. There you go that's my answer no such thing.
Roula (05:03)
Yeah.
There isn't, yes, it's the way we dress it, the way we wear stuff. But then I look at Madonna because she's such a... I get really inspired by her. And when I see her outside and what she dresses on stage or in her personal life, it suits her. It's the way she dresses them, the way she holds herself. Not necessarily she's not... Well, people might argue because there is a lot of controversial opinion about her.
Rosie (05:20)
Mmm.
Mmm. ⁓
Roula (05:41)
⁓
I should have clicked the puzzle. Hold on. TikTok is asking me to. Okay.
Rosie (05:46)
Hello to the person in the
chat, by the way. We're just recording some episodes.
Roula (05:52)
Yes, hi Shemen. Am I pronouncing it correctly? We're good. How are you? She sent us a gift badge. Thank you. ⁓ I feel grateful. Thank you. So, so yes, to go back to Madonna, of course, there's a controversial opinion about her, but lately, I really like how she dresses, how she holds herself.
Rosie (06:02)
⁓ thank you.
Mm-hmm.
Roula (06:19)
and she
dresses for each occasion as it's supposed to be even though sometimes yeah her style is very gen z and why not
Rosie (06:31)
Yeah, why not?
Roula (06:33)
But it gives
me, yeah, I do think, I do think, am I too old for this? Am I too old for that?
Rosie (06:36)
Okay, you have to show us
your outfit. Are you wearing like a Dickie's like, is this like a, ⁓ what do they call it? Like a, oops, cause I'm loving the combo of the red and the blue. yeah.
Roula (06:43)
yeah. ⁓
like
yeah it's it's a suit pants so i'm gonna if you need to borrow it to fix your van to go under your van and fix it
Rosie (06:52)
Yeah, yeah, I love it.
You know what the problem
is? I always have issues. If you find one that would fit me, I want it. Like these things are never the right proportions and it just gives me a camel toe and that is not attractive and it is not comfortable.
Roula (07:10)
Well, you're in the wrong country.
Netherlands is the country of the tallest people in the world. So if you want long pants, you will find them here.
Rosie (07:16)
Red
They'll probably be too long for me. Yeah. Yeah, that's true.
Roula (07:24)
no no no no they won't be it will
be it will be fine yeah but this is from my vintage from the vintage because i went thrifting and it's from the thrift shop
Rosie (07:28)
Mmm.
I hadn't thought of that.
Yeah, cool. Good find.
I love it.
Roula (07:41)
it's so the topic back to the topic of are we too old or too young for something? I'd rather feel that I prefer not to think I'm too old for something rather too young. I want to feel my age and do what makes me comfortable.
Rosie (07:45)
Sorry.
Roula (08:04)
without having people tell me, you're too old to wear this or you're too young to wear this. Why? I'm just being myself.
Rosie (08:08)
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, when it comes to having fun and doing things like that, why, if you're quoting age as the only reason someone shouldn't do something, that seems ridiculous. If it's, okay, you're losing your vision, you can't see the traffic lights, you shouldn't drive, that is valid, but that can happen to someone of any age.
It's not you're too old, it's you're going blind.
Roula (08:36)
I'll
yes okay okay what you're saying i love what you're saying because we want older people to have the freedom to commute and live their own life i just sometimes i also wonder is it safe for them is it safe for others and it worries me because will i accept that someone will tell my kids will tell me mom you're 80 you should not be driving
Rosie (08:54)
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah. It's an issue of safety.
You shouldn't be driving.
Roula (09:11)
Will I be okay with that?
Rosie (09:12)
Just be hard,
because it's like losing your independence, isn't it? Your sense of autonomy. That's definitely something that does worry me about getting older, if I have the privilege of getting to an age where, yeah, you do start losing some of your independence.
Roula (09:20)
Yes.
You know, keep this thought. I like this for another episode on how we deal with our elderly or older parents, treating them like children, taking away who they are just because we are caring and scared for them.
Rosie (09:34)
Okay.
Mmm.
Mmm. Yeah. Good topic. We've got to remember that one.
Roula (09:54)
Yes. All right, so are you too old or too young for something? Let us know. We want to hear from you.
Rosie (10:01)
We do. Bye!
