Crocs at a Wedding: Iconic or Inappropriate?
One listener sent us four juicy messages—and this episode is dedicated to them. Kicking off with a theory about why men have nipples (you don’t want to miss Roula’s take), we then dive into the big debate: are Crocs ever acceptable at a formal event?
From wedge-heeled clogs to silky bridesmaid dresses paired with classic Crocs, we discuss it all:
- Why Roula owns two pairs (and is slightly ashamed)
- How Rosie’s never splurged on the real deal
- What happens when comfort, style, and social norms collide
Do Crocs signal confidence and rebellion—or just bad taste?
Have you ever worn something to an event that turned heads for all the wrong reasons?

Roula (00:00)
my god you look so good
Rosie (00:02)
Thank you. I gave myself a haircut.
Roula (00:03)
You look
so good. That's the difference. I love it. You look gorgeous. Yeah, I feel radiant. I do. So it's showing.
Rosie (00:09)
Thank you. You're looking really like radiant today. ⁓
We, RULA, got a whole bunch of messages from a listener. About four from the same listener. So I feel like this person deserves an episode dedicated to these questions. What do you think?
Roula (00:47)
Let's give it to this person. That's why we're here. Let's do it.
Rosie (00:49)
Let's do it.
Okay, so this listener is either a super fan or just a little bit obsessed. There are four messages. Here's the first one.
He asked why men have nipples. That's a very interesting question.
See?
nipples so that they can experience being bit by babies and have some empathy for women in their lives. That is probably why they have nipples. Okay, bye.
They have nipples so they can feel what it feels like to be bitten? Is that what she said?
Roula (01:38)
So probably this is the treat she gives her partner if she is straight. She's biting him in his nipples to make him feel... Well, by who would bite? Did she mention a baby? Babies? Because babies would bite moms in their nipples.
Rosie (01:55)
Hey!
This is true, but your interpretation is a little bit juicier. So I don't mind going with that. ⁓
So that's an interesting take on that episode. I really enjoyed it because you were so scientific and I was just wanting to have an argument. So anyway, quite like this point of view.
Roula (02:07)
love that. Yeah.
You see, and now we have a listener with a total different point of view that we wouldn't even think about it, you know? It's so cool!
Rosie (02:23)
Yeah,
I love hearing from them. Now, that was just a funny one to share, but she sent in three questions. Okay, so get ready. I have heard them, but you haven't heard them yet. So here we go.
Hi Rosie and Rula, I would like to know is it okay to wear Crocs to a special event? I really really want to know your opinion on this. question Rula, Crocs, do you know what Crocs are?
Roula (02:52)
to wear what?
Hold on. I yesterday sent a picture of two crocs that I ordered to my niece and I told her I'm decided I'm going to wear hideous shoes this summer.
Rosie (03:09)
Yes! You own crocs! I am in shock! We were talking about clothes. No?
Roula (03:14)
Yeah, but not the crocs you're thinking about.
I ordered sandals with wedged crocs. So not the traditional crocs. And I ordered like a clog, which is closed and it's also a wedge. So not the traditional crocs, more the fashionable ones, but they still look terrible. Anyway, let's go back to the question of our listener.
Rosie (03:23)
Falsuited.
Mmm, not traditional crocs. ⁓
So is it ever acceptable to wear crocs at a special event?
Roula (03:46)
Depends what the event is. If it's a wedding... ⁓
Rosie (03:49)
A wedding, a wedding. Let's go
with a wedding.
Roula (03:52)
What's the dress code? Is the dress code wear something funny?
Rosie (03:57)
No, let's just say traditional wedding.
Roula (04:00)
Knowing me, knowing you. Uh-huh. You would wear crocs, but I wouldn't.
Rosie (04:10)
Do it just to see people's reactions. my God. But I was, I was talking to the person who sent this in and she said, Rosie, I have a friend who went to a wedding wearing Crocs. And in my mind, I was mortified thinking, you know, the traditional flat Crocs that really dorky. She said, no, no. And she sent me a link. Just like you were saying, you ordered the ones with a bit of a heel. That is what this person wore to a wedding. And I went, what?
Roula (04:29)
Yes!
Rosie (04:39)
Since when did Crocs have half nice looking shoes? Like what?
Roula (04:47)
quite alternative, the new ones, and now it sounds like we're promoting this brand and we are not. We're not. ⁓ Just they have something futuristic and alternative about the shoes that depending on the outfit, they might look edgy and cool, but not the traditional crux.
Rosie (04:53)
We're not.
might look at you in ⁓
Roula (05:13)
I need to see the entire outfit. If she can sneak a picture of this person and see the entire outfit, I can give my opinion better.
Rosie (05:17)
hang on, I...
Hang
on, hang on. I have something I prepared earlier. So this is not the person because we don't have permission from the person, but this is what it looks like. Well, no, this is an example of what it could look like. Here we go.
Roula (05:28)
This is not.
Rosie (05:38)
Can you see that?
Roula (05:39)
My heart is beating so fast! Noooo!
Rosie (05:45)
So dear listeners, there's a picture here from Pinterest. I think it's the bridesmaids. So they're wearing the full length dresses, purple, like looks like silk. And they're wearing like crocs, just the traditional flat ones.
Roula (06:01)
Rosie,
in this context, I love it. Yes. This represents freedom, style, and they all agreed on it. It's not like just one guest who entered the wedding wearing crocs and some ugly outfit. This is intentional and they must be having so much fun.
Rosie (06:05)
You love it! What? You said no!
Roula (06:28)
wearing this, nice dress with these crocs, can you imagine the laughter? Can you imagine how much they danced on the grass and they didn't care about their feet and the pain?
Rosie (06:33)
That would be fun.
Yeah, yeah, your feet
wouldn't be sore. You could just go and go and go. So this is interesting. You think it's okay if other people are doing it too. But if it was just, well, they would just ordinary traditional crocs.
Roula (06:49)
Depending on the style.
Yeah, but look at them. They agreed it was intentional.
Rosie (06:59)
So why is it wrong if one person did it? If I turned up to your wedding, let's say we go back in time when you and Rianto got married and I turned up wearing Crocs.
What would you say to that?
Roula (07:17)
In my invite to you, would tell you, Rosie if you're to wear crocs, do not come to the wedding. I will not let you surprise me with this.
Okay, I'm feeling that we're being too harsh and if you and I promote freedom of expression and making your own choices, we don't want to be hypocrites. When a person come in wearing their crocs, they must have so much self-confidence and they truly don't give a fuck. And I think I can learn from this person whether I like the choice or not. On the other hand, I like style.
Rosie (07:37)
Yeah!
True.
Mmm.
tree.
Roula (07:58)
and wear heels and even if it's crocs, I like the stylish one. So my preference is very different from a different person. This is why I think for official invitation, it's written what the dress code. And if someone got the dress code wrong, we just have to suck it up and hide all the pictures of this person. Don't share them.
Rosie (08:21)
you are
so shallow. Here we are talking about freedom. Let's not be hypocrites. but let's set a dress code and we're just gonna hide all evidence that this person ever rocked up.
Roula (08:31)
yeah, but my freedom is not to share
your picture wearing crocs and ruining my entire design.
Rosie (08:35)
Of course,
of course. Well, I don't know. What's our answer to the question?
You sound conflicted, really.
Roula (08:45)
I am conflicted. We must not judge or shame. Next.
Rosie (08:47)
Right, I think we move on to the...
except you would uninvite me from the wedding if I wore crocs. What if I wore stylish ones with a big chunky heel?
Roula (08:54)
Yes.
I would love it. Yeah.
Rosie (09:00)
You would love it. So
really then that would be just like wearing flat shoes or heels.
Roula (09:10)
be like wearing this thong slippers at a wedding. Also, not something to wear.
Rosie (09:14)
You
I'm imagining you wearing like, my God, we need to dress up in crocs and just, you can be in your really stylish clothes and wear crocs, but not the ones you think are stylish, the other ones.
Roula (09:30)
and your really stylish clothes and wet cloths.
Yes. I have hideous ones.
Rosie (09:40)
You do. Next time. ⁓
Roula (09:41)
Next time we're gonna wear them. We're gonna just make a picture. All
right, I think we have to do the next question as the next episode because we already spent 60 minutes.
Rosie (09:49)
next episode, because you just cannot shut up, seriously. But this makes
me want, this makes me want a pair of Crocs. I have never bought the actual brand Crocs. always, because they're expensive. I always buy the knockoff version from over here. have Kmart or Target, cheap shop.
Roula (10:01)
They're so comfortable.
Listen, sometimes it's worth your money. And this brand, ⁓ goodness, we're talking about this brand. I'm not sure we're allowed to do this. I mean, we are allowed, but it feels very, they are incredibly comfortable. Shut up for a second. They are so comfortable. Summer, winter, they're so comfortable. They're worth it. No.
Rosie (10:18)
Of course we're allowed. Maybe Crocs, you should sponsor us. Fuck's sake.
Yeah, but this is what I'm saying. I can get them, I can get them for $6
from the cheap shop.
Roula (10:35)
promise you it's not the same. Some things you have to pay to get the good quality and this is one of these things.
Rosie (10:37)
Hmm ⁓
Yeah, alright, well, whatever. Wear crocs to a wedding if you want, I dare you. It's your self-expression, it is your freedom. We still love you, but I'm not convinced ruler means that. I do. I'm being genuine.
Roula (10:48)
We still love you.
next next next episode bye
